Kempen wins the Environmental Finance IMPACT Award 2021

06 September 2021
Narina Mnatsakanian, Executive Director of Impact and Sustainable Investment and Portfolio Manager for Kempen Global Impact Pool said: “We are very pleased to have won this award. This award is a testament to the team's innovative and proactive approach to achieving the Global Impact Pool's mission of making investments that have a real world impact and contribute positively to solving global problems.”

The Global Impact Pool (GIP), founded in 2018, is a multi-asset impact fund with the aim to realize market-based financial returns and a measurable, positive impact on society and the environment. The fund is focused around four themes and five Sustainable Development Goals; Basic needs and well-being (SDG 3 and SDG 6), SME Growth and decent work (SDG 8), Climate & energy transition (SDG 7) and Circular economy (SDG 12) across both emerging and developed markets.

As a multi-asset fund that has been co-created with our clients, the GIP identifies investment managers that have developed scalable solutions for these problems and invests in countries where gaps remain on achieving these SDGs. Ralph Engelchor, Portfolio Manager of the Kempen Global Impact Pool: “Since 2018 we have been able to address pressing social and environmental issues through our partnerships with focused impact investment managers, without sacrificing any financial returns. We strongly believe that the full integration of our proprietary impact framework in Kempen’s established manager selection process contributed, and will continue to contribute, to both impact and financial returns.”

On the impact returns, Janine Whittington, Impact Manager of the Kempen Global Impact Pool said: “The Global Impact Pool continuously monitors and reports on the impact achieved by the fund. Looking at the investments that have been funded by the Global Impact Pool over the last three years, we have seen a 3.5 times increase in underserved people reached with financial services, to nearly 1.5 million people. Last year the Global Impact Pools fund investments contributed to healthcare being provided to over 342,000 underserved people in East Africa and South East Asia. At the same time, the fund’s investments in solar and wind projects saw an average annual CO2 emissions avoided of approximately 11,000 tonnes. This is equivalent to about 4,500 cars being taken off the road for a year. We are proud of these results and look forward to further growing the impact track record of the GIP.”
